Attend Your NDIS Plan Meeting

Check you have all your checklist and supporting documents to take with you to the meeting. Take notes at the meeting so that you can check on things later. Clearly express your goals and needs so NDIA knows exactly what is needed in your Plan. Ask as many questions as you like.

If you have a support coordinator, have a meeting to discuss your supports and contact providers. If you have providers that you want to use, start to organise your supports as you need.

Go To Your Annual NDIS Review

Shortly before your plan is due to expire an annual review will be organized and this is your opportunity to discuss if your NDIS Plan has provided sufficient support for you to achieve your goals.

What Type of Support Does an NDIS Plan Include?

Your NDIS Plan will generally include core supports, capital supports and Capacity Building supports.

Core Supports

Core supports has three categories that can be used flexibly. You are able to move the funds between the different categories.  This flexibility gives you the choice and control over how you use your funds to achieve your specific goals.

• Supports you to be independent at home
• Funds activities such as preparing your meals, house cleaning, gardening, showering and dressing.
• Funds respite care

  • Helps cover the cost of suitable transport so you can access the supports you need outside of your home.
  • Maybe available to you if you are unable to use public transport.
  • Generally paid as a fortnightly allowance directly to your bank account.
  • These are daily supplies that you need due to your disability.
  • Covers costs of nutrition products, continence products and other personal needs.
  • Covers the cost of interpreting supports.
  • Can also cover the cost of small adaptive equipment such as a walker, sensory equipment, security or apps for your tablet or smart phone.
  • Your occupational therapist can assist you to determine your specific needs.
  • Will not cover the cost of medications.
  • Support for you to participate in the social, community and recreational activities.
  • Covers the cost of your support but generally you will have to cover the cost of the actual activity. There is an option for the activity costs to be covered under the Increased Social & Community Participation category under Capacity Building Supports.
  • Therefore, the cost of the support worker to take and assist you with the activity will be covered.

Capital Supports

Capital Support funding is for major purchases that are required to help you live your best possible life. You’ll have to use your Capital Support funding on the things decided at your NDIS planning meeting. Sometimes, you may need to submit a quote to NDIA for approval as well.

  • Some small items of technology and equipment can be claimed if provided in the plan.
  • Costs of repairs to your disability-related equipment can be claimed.
  • Covers the cost of specialised technology and equipment.
  • Funds for items such as wheelchairs, prosthetics and orthotics, portable hoists, vehicle modification and guide dog acquisition.
  • An assessment from an approved therapist and a quote from a provider are required.
  • Funds changes or additions to your home, such as ramps or rails, to make it suitable for you to live independently.
  • May include the cost of a project manager to implement the modifications.
  • May include the costs of living in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) registered accommodation.

Capacity Building Supports

Capacity Building Support funding is aimed at helping you develop independent living skills. You are not able to move funds from one category to another.  Funds must be spent on the agreed services and supports.
